Dusan
Note: This chapter starts after the hand written one ends, Dusan and his family are on the very over crowded airship [Name]. Everyone is having the time of their lives, except Dusan. [Why?] He storms off away from the view of the spectrocite engines heading to the aft of the ship to explore the rear boiler. The airship is equipped with 2 small boilers, compared to non-spectrocite powered ships, one at the rear of the ship, and one in the front for balance. While the majority of its buoyancy now comes from the newest, largest, and untested, spectrocite engines, the airship still had 2 long parallel balloons that needed steam, as well as the bulk of the ships creature comforts were steam powered.
Dusan is alone on the aft of the airship when the spectrocite engines begin to subtly change their sound. Having been enamored with them from launch, Dusan notices it, but continues on his exploration below deck where he found an unlocked hatch.
Back at the main cabin, everyone is laughing, eating, and drinking. The elaborately dressed staff whisking around on steampowered skates on tracks that let them weave through the crowd with ease. Dusan’s family were all peering out the windows at the twin full moons when the first spectrocite engine failed. Its deep thrumming sound shifted upward to a hum and then a scream. Everyone tried to jam over to that side to see what was happening causing the ship to list. When the second engine then began to make the same horrible noise as the first is when the panic really set in.
Dusan found himself wedged into the corner of a crawl space he was exploring under the boiler as the ship plummeted toward the ground. While it was equipped with the 2 long parallel balloons, the company had been so confident in their new spectrocite powered turbines that they ordered the pilot not to inflate them. This was now the focus of the crew as the passengers all screamed in horror in unison. The boiler flames went from just the pilot light to full blast in moments, blasting Dusan with a wave of heat. He scrambled away and crawled as fast as he could back out.
The 2 long parallel balloons that ran down the back of the sleek airship slowly began to inflate. It was too little too late, the ship was 3 times over capacity, even if the balloons had been fully inflated, without the incredible power of the spectrocite engines there was no way it would stay airborne. The [shipname] in all her glory, her deep mahogany walls, brass and copper accents, her lavishly dressed crew, all 3 time capacity load of people, her partially inflated 2 long parallel balloons, and Dusan, smashed into the side of a rocky cliff.
Spectrocite was first discovered [years ago] It was created aeons ago when a meteor struck the planet, fusing with local minerals at the main impact site. The heat and pressure of the crash fusing together into an entirely new substance: spectrocite. It’s a bit like blue ice, but different in almost every way. Cold to the touch, and blue spectrocite has a faint glow that sometimes pulses like a heart beat. It was lost to all except the people that lived in the underground caves below the long forgotten crater for centuries.
Enough small pieces of spectrocite had been found that people were aware of it [why would people snorting crushed spectro not try to find more?]. So, the people that did find small pieces of spectrocite discovered that you could crush the crystals into a powder and ingest it, causing a variety of side effects. The most common was something psychedelic to your vision and color perceptions. [This is not the right place to introduce this?]
HOW DOES A SPECTROCITE ENGINE WORK: Safety Manual Alpha v0.21
Spectrocite generates a moderate anti-gravity field when [something sciency here about how anti-gravity works], when combined with [something more sciency here]. The first spectrocite engines could barely be called engines.
